Reclaiming Our Connection with Nature

A note from our co-founder Yvan, on questioning the story we inherit about health.

History is generally written by the victor. The people and systems with the greatest influence have always had a powerful role in shaping the story we inherit. What we believe happened, what we believe matters, and what we accept as truth.

I believe we need to ask the same questions of science and human health. Who decides what healthy looks like? Who funds the research? Who decides which questions are worth asking? Who controls what gets taught, published and promoted?

Our understanding of health is shaped by institutions, industries, commercial interests, cultural beliefs. And when a version of the story becomes dominant, questioning it can be surprisingly difficult.

I personally see this play out every year when I have to advocate for my son to have a different relationship with the outdoors and natural sunlight at his school. “No hat or sunscreen required.” What seems to me like a reasonable request and conversation about environment, individual choice and health sovereignty can quickly become a battle against an established set of rules and assumptions.

Have we become so disconnected from nature that my son needs permission to interact with it?

Health isn’t found in the mainstream or by following one prescribed formula. Perhaps it begins with becoming curious again. Curious about our food, our environment, our bodies, our natural rhythms and the knowledge that came before us.

At Tre Lune, we don’t believe in blindly accepting the prescribed version of “healthy”. We believe in curiosity.

Yours in forever questioning the status quo,

Yvan
